44 Lessons for Life

My very first post on my very first blog!  This is a list I've had in my journal for a long time... a collection of lessons for life

  1. Once a year, go somewhere you’ve never been
  2. Once a year, go to the Theatre or an art gallery
  3. Start saving for retirement with your first paycheck
  4. Pay off your credit cards every month
  5. Burn the candles…. Use the good dishes…. Wear the fancy lingere.  Why wait?
  6. Whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger
  7. Get rid of anything that isn’t useful, beautiful, or brings you joy
  8. No matter how you feel, dress up and show up
  9. Marry someone you love to talk to 
  10. Children only get one childhood…. Make it memorable
  11. Being kind is more important than being right
  12. Your heart is your best compass
  13. Humor and time cure most pains
  14. Work hard and find a job you enjoy
  15. Get enough sleep…. Make it a priority in your life
  16. Eat real food… not stuff that is manufactured
  17. Dream while you are awake
  18. Don’t dwell in the past, invest in the present
  19. Don’t be a martyr
  20. Make peace with the past so it won’t spoil the present
  21. Envy is a waste of time…. You probably have what you need
  22. What goes around comes around
  23. Be gentle with the Earth
  24. Learn the rules and break a few
  25. Never laugh at anyone’s dreams
  26. In disagreements, fight fair
  27. When you make a mistake, take steps to correct it
  28. Take responsibility for your actions
  29. Make mistakes, but not one so big it will change the course of your life
  30. Open your arms to change, but hold onto your values
  31. Read more books and watch less TV
  32. Listen more than you talk
  33. Yield
  34. Give people more than they expect (and do it cheerfully)
  35. Summon up 30 seconds of courage to take action
  36. Create a loving, safe environment in your home
  37. Great love and great achievement involve great risk
  38. Share your knowledge
  39. Dance like no one is watching
  40. Life isn’t fair, but it is still good
  41. Agree to disagree.  You don’t have to always win
  42. Over prepare, and then go with the flow
  43. Mind your own business
  44. No one is in charge of your own happiness except you
